As you can see we have chemicals all around us. In fact human beings are much like a big bag of chemicals, made from simple substances such as water, and complex ones like deoxyribose nucleic acid (DNA).
However to learn about chemical substances students usually start with fairly simple materials and their reactions, and build up from there.
This is what we are going to do now. We will learn about one of the most simple and commonly used groups of substances available - metals - as a starting point to our study of chemistry.
